How to Pause and Reclaim Your Peace

How to Pause and Reclaim Your Peace

Hi dear friends,

It is indeed the last week of April. How have you found it? Q2 started off with speed. May we always move in the right direction. Amen.

We’ve all been there—caught in a loop, stuck in habits we swore we’d break. Whether it’s overthinking, procrastination, self-doubt, toxic relationships, or self-sabotage, negative patterns can feel like quicksand: the more you struggle, the deeper you sink.

But here’s the truth:
 You are not powerless.

A few months ago, I was there and something I learnt is what I am sharing today.

Pick a goal and work on it, leave the goals that other people think you should have, focus on the one you picked. Give it your all.

You can unlearn what no longer serves you.
You can create new pathways in your mind and heart.
 You can reclaim your peace.

Let’s talk about how.

long  Todo list

What patterns don’t serve you any longer?

Unhelpful patterns are behaviors or thought cycles that consistently rob you of joy, drain your energy, or hold you back from becoming who you’re meant to be.

They might show up as:

  • Always expecting the worst
  • People-pleasing to your own detriment
  • Choosing the same kind of unhealthy relationships
  • Avoiding what matters most
  • Criticizing yourself harshly

The tricky part?
Most of these patterns feel normal because they’ve been around for so long. You really don’t know how to function without them, so you tell yourself that they motivate you, they keep you going. The truth- you are afraid of looking at yourself closely.

Awareness Is the Turning Point

You can’t change what you don’t recognize.

Start by asking:

  • What behaviors or thoughts keep repeating in my life?
  • What situations leave me feeling drained, small, or unworthy?
  • What do I keep tolerating that disrupts my peace?

Awareness is like turning on the light in a cluttered room. It may not feel comfortable at first—but it’s the beginning of clarity, healing, and change. No matter how long a room has been in darkness, once light comes, everything changes. Turn on the lights.

Reclaim Your Peace

Here’s a gentle, practical guide to help you begin the journey of transformation:

1. Pause and Reflect

Before reacting automatically, hit pause.

Ask yourself:

  • Is this reaction based on my past or my present?
  • Is this behavior helping or harming me?
  • What do I truly need right now?

Reflection allows you to respond with intention, not from habit.

2. Replace Judgment with Curiosity

Instead of asking, “What’s wrong with me?”
Try, “Where did this come from?”

Many of our patterns began as survival strategies—coping mechanisms developed in response to pain, fear, or unmet needs.

Curiosity opens the door to healing. Judgment only reinforces the cycle.

3. Choose One Pattern to Work On at a Time

Avoid overwhelm.

Focus on one behavior or belief at a time.
 Maybe it’s:

  • Saying “yes” when you want to say “no”
  • Doomscrolling late at night
  • Believing you’re not enough

Take your time. Understand it. Challenge it. Rewrite it.

4. Create New Anchors

If you’re breaking a pattern, ask: What will I replace it with?

Examples:

  • Swap self-criticism for daily affirmations
  • Replace scrolling with journaling or a walk
  • Trade perfectionism for “done is better than perfect.”

These small, intentional swaps—done consistently—can change your entire rhythm.

5. Surround Yourself With Peace-Bringers

Your environment matters more than you think.

Curate your space and energy:

  • Spend time with people who speak life into you
  • Consume social media content that uplifts and informs
  • Create environments that feel calm, clean, and safe
  • Choose carefully the music and movies you pay attention to.

Healing flourishes in the right atmosphere.

6. Embrace the Discomfort of Growth

Breaking old patterns isn’t linear. It’s messy.
Some days, you’ll take two steps forward. Other days, one step back.

And that’s okay.

Each time you choose peace over chaos, presence over autopilot, you’re building something new.

Final Thoughts: You Deserve Peace

Let this be your gentle reminder:

  • You are not bound by your past.
  • You are not defined by your old cycles.
  • You have the power to grow, evolve, and reclaim the peace that’s always been your birthright.

You’re not late.
 You’re not behind.
 You’re right on time.

This week, start small.
 Pause. Breathe. Notice the pattern.
Then, choose differently—one decision at a time.

You’ve got this.

Until next time, stay authentic.

Stay resilient, and continue to honour your needs.

Live wholeheartedly,

Amaka
